We host regular free public understanding events, with speakers on science, pseudoscience, politics, and policy, and where these topics intersect.
Most of our events are in The Admiral Bar, 72a Waterloo Street – but keep an eye on our events page for full details of talk dates, locations etc These events have always been free and unticketed, and we hope to keep it that way.
Our only source of funding is donations from those who come along to our events, and we appreciate the support of our regular attendees very much.
Glasgow Skeptics was founded in November 2009 and began hosting monthly public understand talks. In November 2010, we hosted our first ticketed all-day event, Skeptics in the Tron, which was followed up in June 2011 with #Skeptron. Our pub events became so popular that, in January 2011, we began hosting two talks every month.
We seek to cover a wide range of topics – across science and politics – in our public understanding events and have previously covered areas as diverse as:
- Alternative Medicine
- Libel Reform
- Alien Life
- Electoral Reform
- Animal Testing
- Lucid Dreaming
- PR and the Media
- Climate Change
- MMR and Autism
- … and Overpopulation
