Asexuality is a sexual orientation defined by a lack of sexual attraction. Asexuality challenges many of the assumptions that Western societies hold about sex\, love\, and relationships. This talk will briefly introduce Asexuality\, and then go on to describe the ways in which researchers have used Asexuality to think critically about sexuality\, and contest many assumptions that we take for granted\, including monogamy\, sexual attraction\, and romantic relationships. \nAbout the speaker: \nSam Lawton is a Researcher interested in the Psychology of Sexuality. He takes a scientific approach which draws on Psychological\, Sociological\, Feminist\, and Sexological discourse.\n \n\nThis is event is free to attend\, although we will be asking for donations at the end of the talk. Participants are under no obligation whatsoever to donate\, however please rest assured that the money we collect doesn’t end up in anyone’s pocket – it is used to fund our overhead costs\, and travel/accommodation for our speakers who come from further afield.\n \n\nAccessibility: As per the policy of the Admiral Bar\, access to the venue “can only be provided to patrons who are sufficiently mobile and capable of independently evacuating premises\, or with the minimum of assistance”.
