DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 7.15\, and kickoff is at 7.30 \n\nWe nearly all now carry around in our pockets something which just 15 years ago would have seemed utterly miraculous. From this little slab of light\, and for a few pounds a month\, we can touch a glass sheet and interact with most of the world’s population. We can share opinions\, memories\, hopes\, fears\, dreams and experiences as they happen and from almost anywhere on the planet\, we have access to the sum of the world’s information just about whenever and wherever we want. Social media would likely not exist as it does without the smartphone.\nIt’s probable that the huge changes in the political landscapes over the past 5 years would not have happened without it\, but do you even know how it works? \n\nIs having a microwave transmitter right next to your brain or in your pocket a bad thing?\nCan your mobile actually be killing you?\n\nAbout the speaker:\nSean Slater is the Vice-Chair of Edinburgh Skeptics Society and has worked in the mobile phone industry for nearly 25 years; seeing it grow from an expensive businessman’s toy to the ubiquitous consumer necessity it is now.\nYou can follow him on Twitter @TheTrueScotsman \n\nThis is event is free to attend\, although we will be asking for donations at the end of the talk. Participants are under no obligation whatsoever to donate\, however please rest assured that the money we collect doesn’t end up in anyone’s pocket – it is used to fund our overhead costs\, and travel/accommodation for our speakers who come from further afield. \n\nAccessibility: As per the policy of the Admiral Bar\, access to the venue “can only be provided to patrons who are sufficiently mobile and capable of independently evacuating premises\, or with the minimum of assistance”. Unfortunately\, this leaves the basement inaccessible to most wheelchair users. \n URL: LOCATION:72a Waterloo Street\, Glasgow\, G2 7DA\, United Kingdom ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png: END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
