Available here\nCheck out other Pint of Science events taking place on Tue 15th & Wed 16th here\n\nThe Star Wars universe is one in which a mysterious ‘Force’ governs all and directs the destiny of individuals and civilizations alike. But what does the notion that a person has a destiny – a fixed future – tell us about how free that person’s actions really are\, and how morally responsible for those actions they can legitimately be held to be? This talk will briefly examine this\, and associated questions concerning the relationship between there being a fixed future\, free will\, and moral praise or blame\, all against the backdrop of George Lucas’ epic tale of the triumph of good over evil in a galaxy far\, far away. For those who are particularly interested\, there is a full day course on the subject available from the University of Glasgow \nAbout the speaker:\nDr John Donaldson teaches philosophy at the University of Glasgow. His main research interests are in the philosophy of mind\, particularly the metaphysics of mind: the problem of mental causation\, the mind-body problem\, and the prospects for materialist accounts of mental phenomena. He also takes an interest in reductive versus non-reductive projects in science more generally\, the development of the philosophy of mind in the twentieth century\, intentionalism in the philosophy of art\, and David Hume. \n\nAccessibility: As per the policy of the Admiral Bar\, access to the venue “can only be provided to patrons who are sufficiently mobile and capable of independently evacuating premises\, or with the minimum of assistance”. Unfortunately\, this leaves the basement inaccessible to most wheelchair users.\n \n URL:http://glasgowskeptics.com/event/philosophy-star-wars LOCATION:72a Waterloo Street\, Glasgow\, G2 7DA\, United Kingdom ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:http://glasgowskeptics.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/z_star-wars_eb.png END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
