How to rig a general election

July 18, 2023 @ 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm

event poster

Stand-asides, vote-splitting, and tactical voting in the UKs last FPTP/first past the post election.

About the speaker:
Ewan Hoyle has been a regular parliamentary and council candidate for the Liberal Democrats, but is now the leader of Volt Scotland, part of the pan-European, anti-populist political organisation, Volt Europa.
He has an MSc in Neuroscience from Kings College London.

Point of note: Glasgow Skeptics do not endorse any political party, and it is somewhat unusual for us to have a representative speak for us. Our speaker is however a friend of the group, and even spoke for us way back in 2012 about evidence based drug policy. Of course, we expect our audience to cast a critical eye on what is presented, and to subject Ewan to an objective and thorough Q&A session after the talk.

This is event is free to attend, although we will be asking for donations at the end of the talk. Participants are under no obligation whatsoever to donate, however please rest assured that the money we collect doesn’t end up in anyone’s pocket – it is used to fund our overhead costs, and travel/accommodation for our speakers who come from further afield.
Accessibility: As per the policy of the Admiral Woods Bar, access to the venue “can only be provided to patrons who are sufficiently mobile and capable of independently evacuating premises, or with the minimum of assistance”. Unfortunately, this leaves the basement inaccessible to most wheelchair users.
