SUMMARY:LISA - Space Observatory for Gravitational Waves
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 7. Kickoff at 7.30. View event on Facebook here \n\nLISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna) is a space-based gravitational wave observatory building on the success of LISA Pathfinder and LIGO. \nOur speaker on the subject is Dr Natalia Korsakova\, a Royal Society Newton Fellow working at the University of Glasgow. Her focus is mainly on applications of machine learning in LISA data analysis\, and the studies of the real noise influence on instrument performance\, which is important for LISA design. \nDr Korsakova completed her undergraduate degree in astronomy in her hometown at Saint Petersburg State University. She then went on to do her PhD in Hannover at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics. Her work focused on the data analysis for LISA Pathfinder\, a small space mission that has proven the feasibility of the technologies that will be used for the LISA space-based gravitational wave detector.\n \n\nThis is event is free to attend\, although we will be asking for donations at the end of the talk. Participants are under no obligation whatsoever to donate\, however please rest assured that the money we collect doesn’t end up in anyone’s pocket – it is used to fund our overhead costs\, and travel/accommodation for our speakers who come from further afield.\n \n\nAccessibility: As per the policy of the Admiral Bar\, access to the venue “can only be provided to patrons who are sufficiently mobile and capable of independently evacuating premises\, or with the minimum of assistance”. Unfortunately\, this leaves the basement inaccessible to most wheelchair users. \n
