SUMMARY:The Secret World of Bats
DESCRIPTION:Bats: Creepy as heck? Or cute and cuddly? Come along and be amazed by all of the wonderful things there are to know about these elusive creatures\, courtesy of Fife’s very own ‘Batwoman’ Tracey Jolliffe. \nTracey\, a former veterinary nurse\, nurses sick\, injured and orphaned bats in a custom-built bat hospital in her home until they are fit to return to the wild. \nThe bat hospital has space for assessment and first aid and there’s even room for a short test flight. It’s also Scotland’s only registered quarantine facility for bats. \nAbout the speaker:\nAs a microbiologist working in the NHS\, Tracey Jolliffe has presented many talks and posters at a national level. Most notably amongst these are her two previous appearances speaking for Glasgow Skeptics:\nFirstly on STI’s with ‘The Twelve Lays of Christmas’\, then subsequently about Organ Donation … including the story of how she donated one of her kidneys. \nView event on Facebook\, or Meetup \n\nDoors at 7.15\, kickoff at 7.30\nThis is event is free to attend\, although we will be asking for donations at the end of the talk. Participants are under no obligation whatsoever to donate\, however please rest assured that the money we collect doesn’t end up in anyone’s pocket – it is used to fund our overhead costs\, and travel/accommodation for our speakers who come from further afield. \n\nAccessibility: As per the policy of the Admiral Bar\, access to the venue “can only be provided to patrons who are sufficiently mobile and capable of independently evacuating premises\, or with the minimum of assistance”. Unfortunately\, this leaves the basement inaccessible to most wheelchair users. \n
