Dying of Fright: what “voodoo fright death” teaches us about the evolution of emotion

January 6, 2020 @ 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm

Voodoo fright death event poster

A brief exploration of the spooky phenomenon of fright death, examining modern neuroscientific explanations for why humans and animals have sometimes been observed to seemingly die from fear alone. Do curses work? Are demons real? Probably not. Instead find out about some creepy things you didn’t know the human body was capable of. No fright deaths will be carried out as part of this talk, leave your amulets at home.

About the speaker:
Dr Eleanor Simpson works as a clinical psychologist in the NHS. She enjoys writing and speaking, and has an interest in evolutionary models of emotion, mental health and behaviour.
