January 16 @ 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm

event poster
Tonight’s event is now SOLD OUT.
There’s a possibility that some ticket holders might not show up, so folks are welcome to hang around opportunistically at 7.29 just before we start, but we can’t guarantee entry.
Luisa is planning on recording this talk and posting it, so you should hopefully be able to catch it at a later time even if you’re not in the room tonight
Have you ever wondered what the rocks are underneath your feet when you take your dog for a walk down a rocky beach? Or what rocks make up the mountains in the highlands… or the islands of Scotland? These rocks are millions, sometimes billions of years old and formed within a vast variety of different environments. A normal person would just walk over them not even know this or think of this and just think of it as any other rock…
Scotlands geology is so vast… it’s incredible… geologists from across the world come to Scotland to look at the geology to understand what’s going on in the current big mountain chains that are developing today.
Luisa will provide a brief basic summary of the geological history of Scotland in general and explain some of the processes that took place in the geological record which make up Scotland’s geology today.
About the speaker: Luisa Hendry, also known as @scottishgeologist on instagram and TikTok, or as @scotgeologist on Twitter, is a Senior Engineering Geologist that spends her spare time making educational and entertaining videos about geology.
This is event is free to attend, although we will be asking for donations at the end of the talk. Participants are under no obligation whatsoever to donate, however please rest assured that the money we collect doesn’t end up in anyone’s pocket – it is used to fund our overhead costs, and travel/accommodation for our speakers who come from further afield.
Accessibility: The Admiral Woods Bar now has a functioning lift which can take wheelchair users (or others who are unable to manage stairs) down to the function room. There is also a disabled toilet in the function room too. To help us accommodate you if you require to use these facilities we recommend you email us in advance: contact@glasgowskeptics.com
